Robert L. Grantham, Sr., 81 of Jasonville, passed away April 14, 2020 at 8:49 am at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility. He was born January 24, 1939 in Vigo County, the son of Lester Grantham and Mary Gasaway Grantham. He graduated from VanBuren High School, Class of 1957. He also attended Indiana State University for two years. He attended Benwood Mt. Lebanon Church for many years. In high school he played basketball and baseball.
As a young man, he worked at Cooksey Feed Store, CBS and then Verizon. He retired from Verizon where he worked as a lineman. He last worked at the Dollar General Store in Seelyville.
Bob was a coach for his kids and others in baseball and basketball. He also taught many nieces and nephews to drive. He was a positive mentor to many kids.
In his mid-thirties, Bob decided to try running for his health. He completed five full marathons spanning 20 years. He qualified for the Boston Marathon twice. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it be hunting fishing or sports.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Knowles Grantham, they married on May 7, 1965; daughter Kelly Christopher (Charles) of Avon, son Robert Grantham, Jr, of Bloomfield and daughter Stacy Grantham (Shawn McKee) of Jasonville; 8 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Avalon Hapenny and Frances McDonald; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother Jack Grantham.
