Death Investigation Underway In Vermillion County

NEWPORT, Ind – During a search for a missing Perrysville woman, a Department of Natural Resource officer discovered the body of a female north of Newport along the Wabash River Thursday afternoon around 4:30 p.m.

A woman was reported missing from Perrysville back on March 12th.

An autopsy on Friday (05/01/20) at Terre Haute Regional Hospital by Dr. Roland Kohr, shows that the woman’s death is consistent with drowning.

Vermillion County Sheriff Mike Phelps says that at this time, there are no signs of foul play.

Positive identification is expected to be made using dental records on Monday (5/4/2020).

The investigation is being conducted by the Vermillion County Coroner’s Office, Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana DNR and is ongoing.
