VIGO COUNTY, Ind – A Clinton City police officer appeared in Vigo County Court Monday.

34 year old John Alkire III faces charges of domestic battery and strangulation following a Saturday night incident at his West Terre Haute home.

He was arrested just after midnight Sunday morning after a woman called 911 saying that Alkire had beaten her after they had gone to bed.

He allegedly called her names put his hand around her neck and kicked her out of bed, all while a child was in the room.  The victim said that he had been drinking.

All of Alkire’s police equipment has been confiscated and a protective order was put in place.

The Clinton city board of works and public safety will meet Thursday evening to discuss Alkire’s status.
