
Paul David Torbert, 63 of Terre Haute, formerly of Brazil, passed away May 6, 2020 at 1:03am at his residence following an extended illness.
Paul was born January 26, 1957 in Brazil, the son of William Torbert and Hilda Lundsford Torbert. He graduated from Van Buren High School, Class of 1976.
As a young man, Paul worked at Great Dane for over 10 years, then later at the Putnamville Correctional Facility. The majority of his work years were spent as a truck driver. He worked for Estes Trucking and Pyles Trucking. He was proud to have worked as a truck driver for KBR Trucking in the Middle East during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Paul was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and served as the Commander in the past. He enjoyed helping his son and crew at the Paragon Raceway as a sprint pusher. He also fulfilled a life-long goal to learn to scuba dive while on R&R in Thailand.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Matthew Dillon Harris Torbert and Robert Marshel Tellechea; one brother, John Torbert.
Survivors include his children, Matthew Torbert and wife Mariann, Sarah Torbert Tellechea all of Brazil and Rebekah Torbert Holmes and husband Isaac of Seattle; grandchildren, Isaac Torbert, Ian Tellechea, Daelynn Torbert, Catherine Holmes, Mercedes Tellechea, Riley Holmes; two sisters, Mary Torbert and Annette Mullenix and husband Jim; one brothers Mark Torbert and wife Robin; the mother of his children, Sue Torbert and other extended family.
At his request, cremation was chosen with visitation from 2-4pm at the Lawson-Miller Chapel on Saturday. We will be following the guidelines for social distancing with 10 people at a time in the chapel. A service will be held at 4:00 with Pastor Rick Koch officiating.
