Drug Shows Promise As Treatment For COVID-19

INDIANAPOLIS — Remdesivir is showing promising signs as an effective treatment for coronavirus.

Eli Lilly is partnering with the company that makes the drug to try and make it better. Lilly and Gilead Sciences are teaming up to evaluate the possibility of combining remdesivir and Lilly’s rheumatoid arthritis drug baricitinib. The two plan to start clinical trials with both drugs soon.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease doctor on the White House coronavirus task force, says adding an anti-inflammatory such as barcitinib to treatment with remdesivir may provide additional benefits in help corona-patients recover.
