Even During Pandemic, Truck Drivers Keep America Moving

ELWOOD, Ind. — More than a million truck drivers are on Indiana roads every single day, even during the pandemic.

You might get annoyed by how slow they drive in front of you, but we need them now more than ever, says Hue Andrews, the chief operating officer for RG Transport.

“If it wasn’t for the truck drivers, the economy wouldn’t be moving but that’s nothing different than what it was before the virus,” Andrews told Inside Indiana Business. “Trucking always moves the economy.”

Andrews says truck drivers are now getting the recognition that they didn’t receive before.

“You know, there are a lot of people that are essential that we had never even thought about because they just don’t know and I hope that carries forward,” said Andrews.

Richard Lewis, who drives over 500 miles every day for RG Transport, is also grateful for the thanks he’s received, but says he’s just doing his job.

“At the end of the day, it’s nothing different than what we do every day; this is what we have always done,” said Lewis. “We’ve always delivered goods. So, again, it’s just another day in the office.”

He says everything that you buy to survive during these uncertain times was brought to the store by a truck driver, and is appreciative of the awareness they are receiving from Hoosiers.
