CARMEL, Ind – The City of Carmel had planned to sue the city of Minneapolis for the costs that the city has incurred as it has bolstered security to deal with protests and possible violence.

The Indianapolis Business Journal reports that Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard issued a written statement Monday saying the city has retained outside legal counsel and is planning to take action against Minneapolis for the negligence it displayed when city police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on George Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes following an arrest.

Then just five hours later Brainard changed his mind.  Brainard said he reconsidered after reading social media responses and talking to people whose opinions he values. He said he realized the action was being misconstrued.

The city suffered no damage from weekend protests.
