James Frederick Steele II, 76, of Center Point passed away Saturday, July 25, 2020 peacefully in his residence. He was born on December 8, 1943 in Princeton, IN to James Frederick Steele I and Margaret Marie (Bush) Steele.

James was a 1961 graduate of Brazil High School and attended Princeton University. He married Patricia Ray (Husk) in 1974. James served in The National Guard. He was a member of Center Point United Methodist Church. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the Center Point Fire Department. His career at Great Dane working as a supervisor surpassed 27 years. He didn’t consider it work, but as his extended family. Along with his wife, they owned and operated Wood n More Crafts and loved setting up at the Covered Bridge and other festivals. James loved to go fishing, hunting and the company of his dogs.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. James Frederick Steele I; his loving wife of 42 years, Patricia Ray Steele; a son, James Frederick Steele III; and a son-in-law, David W. Chatagnier.

Survivors include his sons, Gene Crowley and wife, Jane and Jeff W. Crowley; daughters, Jamie Marie Chatagnier and Kelly Sue Thate and husband David; grandchildren, Dustin Glenn Monceaux, Sally Starke, Savanna Thate, Elijah Thate, Jessicia Griffin, Anthony Chatagnier, Bethany Blair Lawrence, Brandon Crowley, Brooklyn Crowley, Shakarra Crowley, Sidnie Crowley and Eric James Crowley; and great-grandchildren, Caden, Carson, John-Nathan, Weston Chatagnier, Holden Allen, Owen, Kendall, Paige, Lizanne, Peyton-Eliese, Charlee Ann, Rylee May and Elianna-Grace, arriving November 2020.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Wednesday, July 29, 2020 in French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. with Pastor Doug Davis officiating. Burial will be in Center Point Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday in the funeral home.
