
Anita Joy Smothers, 51, of Blackhawk, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020, surrounded by her loved ones after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born on August 1, 1969 in Clinton to her biological mother Betty Winters and was lovingly raised by Leo and Paulene Dean.
Survivors include her husband, Kenny J. Smothers of Farmersburg. Two sons, Jimmy Tryon III (Jessica) of Terre Haute and Kenneth Andrew Charles Smothers (Jacki) of Coalmont. Two sisters, Pam McFall of Clinton and Kathy Porter of Clinton. Two brothers, Doug Winters of Cocoa Beach, FL and John Winters of Vincennes and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a member of the old Coalmont Church and had a servant’s heart. She spent her time as a volunteer in the Clean Start Program at the Sullivan County Jail and was a volunteer and former board member of The Luke House sober-living facility in Sullivan. She also helped many people in ways that were only known to her and God. She was also an artist and loved creating and sharing things.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Samaritan Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Memorial Service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Cremation is scheduled. Online condolences may be made to www.samaritanfunerals.com.
