Byron Edwin Layton, Jr., (fondly known as Eddie to his family and friends) of Terre Haute, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 at Union Hospital at the age of 69. Eddie was born on November 21, 1951, in Terre Haute.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol Wolfe Layton; a son, Byron Layton III and wife Jennifer; a daughter, Leslie Renee’ Layton; grandchildren, James (Chris) Johnson III, Alexus Layton, Johnathan Johnson, Taylor Layton, and Hunter Layton; brothers, Richard (Nancy) Layton, William (Melissa) Layton, and Marty (Deb) Layton; and several nieces and nephews.
Eddie was a man known for forming lasting relationships. After 35 years of dedicated service as a press operator at Standard Register, the friendships he made continued into monthly Saturday morning breakfasts with the guys. He was also a lifelong, avid pool player – owning the American Poolplayers Association for several years. Anyone who met Byron took an instant liking to him, to find someone who didn’t was a rarity.
Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Masonic rites will begin at 2 p.m. with a funeral ceremony following. Byron will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park’s Chapel of Memories. Guests are required to wear masks at all times.
