Bryan Figg, 58, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday Nov 20, 2020 at 2:45 PM. In the last two years he had survived two brain surgeries and the removal of a kidney due to stage 4 kidney cancer, but was taken during his recovery by COVID pneumonia. Bryan was born the 2nd of May, 1962 in Linton, Indiana to Garland E Figg of Dugger, Indiana and Christly DeCoursy of Hazel Green, Alabama.

Bryan’s mantra throughout these past two years since his cancer diagnosis was always: “If God heals me, I win; if God calls me home I win.”

Growing up in Tennessee, Alabama, and Indiana Bryan lived for football. He was convinced that if circumstances were different during his junior year at Lincoln County High School he would have played for the NFL after college. Instead, Bryan focused on two of his other passions; music and cars. He and his cousin Steve started a rock band, Shockwave. Bryan was able to play multiple musical instruments, but his favorite was guitar. He even built a few guitars in his life. He was a very talented songwriter and singer, with his latest creation being a Christian album which he wrote, performed, recorded, and produced on his own. He always thought that he was writing and creating that album to bring people closer to Christ, but as he was fighting cancer those songs are where he found peace. Despite everything else that he was doing or going through, Bryan was always building a dragster, modified, street stock, or helping Brandon and Steve with the sprint car. There was nothing he couldn’t fix or at least Figg-rig it.

Bryan loved family-he especially loved that he had reconnected with his daughter Courtney. He loved his two step children, Nate and Melanie, as his own and did whatever he could for them.

He will be reunited with both set of grandparents, Walter and Beulah Figg and Charles and Billie DeCourcy, and two uncles, Norman Figg and Richard DeCourcy.

Bryan left behind the love of his life, soulmate, and Babe Jennie Schalburg Figg, his daughter Courtney Lynch, two step children Nate Wehr and Melanie Wehr, and two children-in-law, Travis Lynch and Alyse Wehr, his mother, Christly DeCourcy, his father, Garland Figg (Brenda), his three sisters Laura Jacob (Howard), Teresa Bolt (Lee), and Jennifer Lowery (Chris), Brenda’s son Steve (Billie), Jennifer’s mother Gail Preston (Jim), nephew Jeremy Figg (Samantha), niece Jana Doss (Zachary), Uncle Max and Aunt Harriet Morin, their children Steve (Jeri), Craig (Terri) and Michael, Aunt Vicki, her children Nathan and Matt, Aunt Janette Webb, Aunt Susie Brinson, her children Rick (Lynn) and Michael (Rita). Bryan also left behind many close friends; James and Brenda Dunn, Jackie and Ryan Arnold, Jeff Condiff, Brent Trueblood, and Belinda Davis, and so many more friends and family members.

Steve Morin:

Sometimes you just can’t say enough good things about a person, but my cousin Bryan Figg was probably the most influential person in my life.

He has been my go-to guy my entire adult life! I never found a broken part, a transmission, an electronic circuit board, or a musical instrument he couldn’t fix, or a harmony part he couldn’t sing.

Bryan was a dreamer. He always had big plans for the next car he was gonna build, or a house he was gonna buy and fix up. He was always thinking and was very intelligent about most things in life. He was definitely one of a kind.

Even as a kid, I always looked up to Bryan as if he was my older brother even though I was the oldest in my immediate family. I remember spending time with him when his family lived in Fayetteville, TN, and he would take me for fast rides in his car and I thought that was the coolest thing ever, I think I was about 8 at the time LOL.

I helped him move home from the Navy sometime in the mid-80’s. We stayed in touch after that as Bryan moved around a little bit throughout the years and I was so happy when he called me one day and said he was moving back home from New York to meet a lady in Terre Haute. Well,, that lady was the wonderful Jennie Schalburg Figg who has been a blessing to our family every since.

Bryan and I had been in constant contact over the past few years, playing music together again, rebuilding race cars, rebuilding and then working in my shop and it had been one of the best times of our relationship together. We probably had a few disagreements along the way like any family would, but one thing is for sure, we depended on each other more over the past 5 years or so than ever before in our lives.

Bryan was a great man, he will be missed. My life will never be the same.

Brandon Morin:

Bryan was someone I leaned on so much for all the questions I have had throughout my life. He is someone I looked up to like a father, he was my second dad. That guy was so much fun to be around and no matter the circumstances he was always there in my corner! One thing I hope I can teach my kids about this man is the love that he had for them. Especially the bond that he and Kyzer shared, reminds me of myself when I was that young and I knew that he was going to be that guy for my kids as he was for me.. Even though he may have left this Earth, he will always be there with us in spirit… From all the midnight oil we burned repairing motors or fixing race cars to sitting on the phone and just chit chatting about life there was never a dull moment and I am so happy that I have those memories that I will cherish forever.. I know now that he is up in Heaven, pain free and playing guitar and singing right beside Jesus. Thank you Bryan for everything you done for my family and I.. And also thank you for bringing Jennie Schalburg Figg into our lives, the love you both shared is something that everyone looks at having.. I love you and I look forward to seeing you one day.

Haley Morin:

These pictures make me smile… Bryan would always sneak Ky some treats and Kyzer loved it. Every single time he saw Bryan, he’d get all giddy and run up to him to get a hug. I know how excited he was to watch Ky grow up and I can only imagine the relationship they would’ve had. Brandon always said that Bryan would be that special person to our littles as he was to Brandon. Ky will always have a guardian angel. I know that even though Bryan went to be with Jesus, he will continue to look down and be Ky’s biggest fan throughout his life. ❤

Belinda McKnight Davis:

You see, I met Bryan, Jennie Schalburg Figg and Garland Figg His Dad, almost 2 years ago when I was diagnosed with 2 inoperable brain tumors.

Bryan and I bonded over our shared faith in Jesus and he was so happy God had brought him through some healing!

We laughed and rejoiced and prayed together right there in that waiting room. I was struck by the beauty of his wife Jennie and just how committed she was to him! Boy, he loved her so much- I could see it so clearly!

His Dad cracked me up and both men had a legacy of singing for the Master! Bryan’s music was lovely and so full of passion for the Lord Jesus!

I remember I praised his background musicians and vocals. And Bryan told me rather humbly that it was all his doing! I was blown away by his talent!

I’m already missing my cherished Brother in Christ! I just know that I will get to sing with him a song or 2 with that Kick Butt Heavenly Band! It would indeed be my honor to sing beside this brave, faith filled friend that I discovered in February 2019!

Hugs to my Brother in Jesus! I love you and Jennie and your crew

Bryan knew no strangers; he could strike up a conversation with anyone and usually left them feeling better, or at least thinking.

Bryan left us way too early and will be missed by so many. We all have our own special memories of the man and will cherish them always.
