
Hilbert (Hib) Clayton Cook, 93, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away December 11, 2020. He was born in Mt. Carmel, Illinois on June 9, 1927 to Benjamin Franklin Cook and Gertie (Roberson) Cook. Hilbert served in the United States Navy, in the Pacific, during World War II. He married the love of his life, Grace (Hough) Cook on April 22, 1945. Together, celebrating 75 years of marriage, 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren, their love story is perfect and one that is admired. Hib and Grace were known for always holding hands, they were each other’s soulmates. Hib and Grace attended 8th Avenue Baptist Church. There he taught High School Sunday School. He was also a Deacon of the church and led youth groups. Hilbert was very athletic, he played semiprofessional football, boxed in the Navy, and was an avid bowler. He enjoyed being outdoors, playing golf or fishing. Most of all Hilbert loved his wife, and the family they created together. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved people, he never met a stranger, and he told everyone he met about Jesus. He will be truly missed by his loving family and all of those whose lives he has influenced or touched. Hilbert is preceded in death by his parents; great grandson Cooper Toney; and all of his 11 siblings. He is survived by his loving wife Grace Cook; children Sandra Wilson (Claude), Robert Cook (Jennifer), and Brenda Toney (Don) ; grandchildren Angie Harrison ( Eric), Kristie Steinhofer (Mark), Blaine Wilson (Casey), Jenny Vanesky (Jeremy), Jessy Keith (Troy), Donny Toney (Rachel), Alysha Kesner (Jordan), and Kyle Toney (Lindsay); 17 great grandchildren and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 18, 2020, at 1:00p.m. at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Due to Covid 19 the service will also be live streamed at bit.ly/mtpstream. Pastor Dennis Ticen and Gary Blackburn will officiate. A private burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Friday, from 11:00a.m. until service time. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to a veterans association or a charity of choice. The family has entrusted care and arrangements to Greiner Funeral Home.
