
Hollis LaVerne White, 98, passed away December 10, 2020 in Union Hospital. He was born June 8, 1922 in Effingham County, Illinois to Charles N. White and Mattie Lee Olsteen White. He owned and operated a local gas and service station. Hollis attended the Little Prairie Church in Effingham, 8th Avenue Baptist in Terre Haute, and North Terre Haute Baptist churches. He was a proud WWII veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the south pacific aboard the Charles Carrol. He enjoyed bird hunting, splitting wood, having bonfires, and working. He worked at the station into his late 90s. He enjoyed gardening, and music. He loved to sing, which made everyone smile. He also loved to talk about his family, and spend time with them.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eva Ruth, they shared 72 years of marriage, brothers; Rod, Charles E., and Frank, sisters; Lillian, Lucille, Oma, and Dora Madge.
He is survived by his sons; David and Jim White, daughters; Connie Motz, and Linda Cordo, grandchildren; Scott, Brett, Emily, Luke, Shelby, and Lindsey, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
