John F Minton of St. Bernice, IN passed away on Sunday January 3, 2021 after reaching the age of 88 years old. After months of failing health, he died peacefully within his home surrounded by loved ones.
John was born on April 27, 1932 in Rockville, IN to Henry Minton and Anna Belle Sappenfield. As a very young man he learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support himself and his family. In 1951 he married the love of his life Barbra Belle Shorter, they were almost inseparable for 63 years.
John was a humble man; he never liked to be the center of attention. In life and now in death, he wouldn’t want us to focus on him. He wouldn’t want us to focus on the sadness of his death, but instead focus on the happiness he left in our lives. He would want us to appreciate each other and our future.
A man as humble and loving as John will always be remembered by those of us who knew him and loved him.
John is survived by his three daughters; Deana Newell (Westville, IL), Wynne Lanham (Georgetown, IL) and Jonnie Collins (St. Bernice, IN), 8 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren and a very special family friend Amanda Dust.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbra Minton, his son Jerry Minton, Sr.
He was a strong patriarch of his family, a good friend to all, a man who would give his shirt for a friend. Although we all will miss him, his smile, his wise cracks, his love, we should take consolation in the good feelings that he has left us in our memories.
As per his wishes, cremation rights will be honored. There will be a graveside memorial at a later date, where he will be laid to rest with his wife for eternity.
