
Richard “Dick” Gene Sappenfield, 83, of Brazil, Indiana passed away at Mill Pond Health Campus on February 20, 2021 following an extended illness.
Richard was born on June 20, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Norval Edward and Naomi (Oliver) Sappenfield. He graduated from Emmerich Manual Tech High School in Indianapolis. Following high school he enlisted into the United States Navy. Dick served his country from 1955 until being honorably discharged in 1958. As a civilian, Dick worked as a plumber for the State Farm now Putnamville Correctional Facility.
Dick enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards, bowling, spending time outdoors, and spending time with his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents Norval and Naomi Sappenfield; his wife Barbara Jean Chase Sappenfield; siblings: Norval “Sonny” Sappenfield Jr., and Dennis Sappenfield.
Dick is survived by his 5 children: Tamie Wood and husband Jeff, Lori Hutchison and husband Doug, Richard “Rich” Sappenfield and wife Andrea, Jenny King and husband Jeff, and Angie Pierce and husband Joe; grandchildren: Megan Houlihan (Brian), Cody Wood, Dana Wood, Jared Hutchison, Kortney Hutchison, Nolan Sappenfield, Madeline Sappenfield, Madison King, Connor Pierce, Cole Pierce, and Ava Pierce; great-grandchildren: Harrison Arthur Houlihan and Phoebe Chase Houlihan; siblings: Shirley Westrick (Phil), Bill Sappenfield (Peggy); sister-in-law Bonnie Sappenfield; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Lawson – Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 2:00pm. Burial will be held at Putnamville Cemetery.
