Michael “Mike” S. Byrer passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021. Mike was born June 28, 1958 in Terre Haute, IN.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Martha “Lu” Byrer and Omer “Bud” Byrer. Survivors include Cindy Byrer, his children Melissa Johnson (David), Jackie Olson, Michael Byrer, siblings Pam Townsend (Brett) and Debbi Seifert (John), nieces Haley Seifert (Carlos Spencer), Jessica Townsend (Aaron Sanders), nephews Matthew Townsend and Travis Walker (Colleen), great niece and great nephew Aiden and Nora, grandchildren Casey, Precious, Skyla, Pachance, Laylah, Tommy, Gracie, Mason, Lincoln, Anthony, Patrick and great grandchildren Mazikeen, Evelyn, Kamia and Justin.

Mike graduated from West Vigo High School in 1976. He attended Rose Hulman Institute of Technology briefly before joining the Navy. After serving active duty on the USS Forrestal, Mike worked as a machinist, welder and in the HVAC business. Mike’s proudest accomplishment was being a Veteran. He wore his Navy hat and Forrestal pin everywhere and started each morning by saluting the flag. Mike was a diehard Colts fan and loved spending time with family and especially spoiling his grandchildren.

A special thanks to Wyndmoor Assisted Living Facility where Mike had lived for over the last 2 years. The staff and residents there became family to Mike and he truly loved calling that his home. While living there, Mike enjoyed Euchre matches, Bingo and showing off his Jeopardy skills. Mike also loved just sitting outside visiting with his friends. No matter what challenges Mike faced in his life, his attitude remained positive and he always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. Mike left an impact on everyone he met and will truly be missed by so many.
