Richard E. Sturgeon, 76, of Clay City passed away at home on Monday, April 12, 2021. He was born on January 2, 1945 in Bidwell, Ohio to Reed Sturgeon and Norma (Holter) Carter.

Richard was a 1963 graduate of the former Midland High School that was just South of Jasonville. He was a 20-year laborer for J.I. Case in Terre Haute and after retirement he was a mechanic. Richard married the love of his life, Patricia Schafer on June 6, 1965. Together they attended Friendly Open Bible Church in Coal City.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Reed Sturgeon and Norma Carter; and a brother, Charles Sturgeon.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia Sturgeon; a son, Mark Sturgeon and wife, Diana; a daughter, Amy Reece; Sisters, Barbara Funk and Dorothy Coleman; brothers, Jerry Carter and wife Bobbie and David McCarty and wife Charlotte; grandchildren, Virginia Smith (Dennis), Ethan Reece (Whitney), Lindsey Anderson (Tony), Victoria Reece and Alyssa Curl (Mike); several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, April 16, 2021 in Sink Cemetery, Clay City, IN with Pastor David Smith officiating. Burial will follow immediately afterwards. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, April 15, 2021 in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. 8th Street, Clay City and on Friday 10:00 AM 12:00 PM in the funeral home.
