Charles A. Girton, 88 of Brazil, passed away April 18, 2021 at 7:00am at Cloverleaf Healthcare Facility. He was born December 12, 1932 in Putman County, the son of Luther and Fialty (Conner) Girton. He graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955.

On May 4, 1956 Charlie was united in marriage to Mary Rhodes Girton. They were members of the Union United Methodist Church.

Charlie worked as a correctional counselor at the Federal Prison in Terre Haute. He retired in 1983 after nearly 28 years of employment.

He was active as a Boy Scout Leader, Troop #95 from 1976 to 1988. He was Scout Master from 1979-1988. He was proud to say that he had eleven young men earn the rank of Eagle Scout while in his Troop. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, U.S. Penitentiary Employees Club, Boy Scouts of America, Order of the Arrow and Woodbadge, and National Brotherhood of Magicians.

Charlie was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed projects at home included his craft of woodworking and his business Intarsia Art, Artistry in Wood. He also enjoyed yard work and gardening, magic tricks, and anything his family needed.

Survivors include his son, Stephen Girton, and his wife Gina; 3 grandsons, Gary Girton, Michael Girton and Brandon Girton; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Shew (Jeremy O’Neal), Jason Shew (Nikki), and Jake Shew (Erika); great-grandchildren, Dawson, Gracie, Levi, Jackson, Cooper, Piper and Ava; nieces and nephews, Mary Jo Alumbaugh (Rick), Almeda Trout (Vincent), Donna Reynolds (Phil), Paul Morlon (Peggy), Melvin Odel (Jane), and Sandy Reffett and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Fred Girton, Clive Girton, Larry Girton, Maxine Braden, Betty Morland, and Virginia Bullerdick; his wife Mary Girton on November 18, 2018.

At his direction cremation was chosen. Burial of the ashes will take place April 28, 2021 at 1:00 at Summit Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Jacob Dean officiating. Military graveside services by American Legion, VFW, and the Patriot Guard. Those wishing to process to the cemetery, please gather at 12:45 at the French Funeral Home parking lot. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to BSA Troop #95 or to Union United Methodist Church.
