Robert Leon Wells, 90, of Franklin, Indiana, previously of Coal City, Indiana passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Homeview Nursing Home, Franklin, Indiana surrounded by family. He was born October 17, 1930 near Coal City, Indiana in Owen County to Clarence Harlan Wells and Maude Anna (Smith) Wells.

He attended Jefferson Township Schools in Coal City. He was raised on the farm with his family where he helped with the daily farm operation. Robert worked as a farmhand beginning at a young age. He attended Antioch Christian Church most of his life and did not miss a Sunday of church for over 39 years. This was an accomplishment that Bob was very proud of. He was an avid sports fan with IU Basketball being his most favorite, not wanting to miss a game on TV. Robert was crowned the Old Grouch five times at the Coal City Festival. He enjoyed racoon hunting in his younger years. He was known as Bingo Bob at Homeview Nursing Home where he enjoyed all the activities, especially bingo. He always had a smile on his face and loved people.

Survivors include his sister Lois Sheese of Indianapolis, Indiana, his brother Rex Wells (Leah) of Franklin, Indiana, sister-in-law Pauline Wells of Franklin, Indiana, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, brother Forrest Wells and brother-in-law Lewis Sheese.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 PM Saturday, April 24, 2021 in Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 E. 8th Street, Clay City, with Pastor Chris Gehring officiating. Burial will be in Fiscus Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM Saturday in the funeral Home. Facial coverings or masks are required for those attending.
