Phyllis Marie DeBord, 77, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on April 28, 2021 at Union Hospital with her sons by her side.

Phyllis was born on August 3, 1943, in Terre Haute, Indiana the daughter of John and Mattie Josephine Stancombe. Phyllis graduated from North Central High School in 1962. She attended cosmetology school and worked for Roots and Meis as a hairdresser and cosmetologist. She was employed at Pillsbury, Hartland Automotive, Columbia Records, Woodrow Wilson cafeteria, and most recently Wal-Mart. Phyllis enjoyed listening to music of all genres. One of her passions was square dancing. She was a member and former president of the Swinging Mates square dance club. She was also an artist with most of her paintings displayed at home. She was a master gardener and at one time, a member of the Wabash Valley Master Gardeners Association. She was full of life, traveled the world when possible, had a heart big enough for everyone, and loved all outdoor activities to include camping, bicycling, kayaking, and hiking.

Phyllis is survived by her two sons: Chris Marter (Eva) and Charlie Marter (Shelly Holt); grandchildren: Jamie and Chris Marter II; great-grandchildren: Landon and Briley Evans, Camdon and Ethan Davenport, and Eva Marter. Former husbands: David Marter and Robert DeBord. Special friend Bill Hartman as well as many friends and extended Family.

In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Terre Haute Humane Society.

Visitation for Phyllis will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel 1702 E, National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834 on Friday, May 7, 2021 from 11am until 1:00pm. Services will be held at the funeral home at 1:00pm on Friday. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
