
Wilbur Petty, 92, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away at home, on May 9, 2021 following a lengthy illness.
Wilbur was born on March 2, 1929, in Carbon, Indiana, the son of Charles and Oval (Borg) Petty. Wilbur graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1948. Following high school he worked for J.C. Penney. There he met his wife Dolores Silvers. She preceded him in death after 69 years of marriage. After his first year at Arketex he was drafted to serve in the Army during the Korean War. During his service in the Army he served as a Paratrooper and Paratroop Instructor. When he returned home he went back to work at Arketex ending his career there after nineteen additional years of service. Wilbur also worked at Distributors Terminal, Public Service Indiana, and most recently Amax Coal.
When he wasn’t working he liked spending time outdoors, mushroom hunting, fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles, traveling, and camping. He also enjoyed woodworking and birdwatching.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Oval Petty; his wife Dolores Petty; a sister Elnora June Pierce.
Wilbur is survived by his son Gary Petty of Bedford, Indiana; a brother Don Petty and wife Caroline of Brazil as well as many extended family members.
Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 6-8pm. Services will be held at the funeral home, on Thursday, at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery with military rites provided by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
