Dorothy Jane Grigsby, 95, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away at home with her family by her side on June 5, 2021.

She was born on February 16, 1926 in Brazil, daughter of David Elmer and Winifred Fay (Davis) Deakins. Dorothy was a graduate of Staunton High School. Dorothy married Cleveland Grigsby Jr. on January 24, 1945. He preceded her in death on February 21, 2000 after 55 years of marriage.

Dorothy enjoyed her family and friends and was always up for a game of cards and pizza. Dorothy always greeted everyone with a kind heart and a smile on her face. Dorothy’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren were the highlight of many family gatherings.

Dorothy was famous for her homemade chocolate pies and her recipe has been passed down to the grand daughters to carry on the tradition.

In Dorothy’s later years, she took up dancing and danced every weekend.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, David Elmer and Winifred Fay Deakins and a son, Steven Ray Grigsby.

She is survived by one son, Ronald Grigsby (Fonda) of Brazil, one daughter, Karen Phillips (Yancy) of Brazil and one daughter-in-law Debra Grigsby of Brazil.

Grandchildren – Christopher Grigsby (Tonna), Angie Brown (Brian), Ryan Grigsby, Holly Bell (Bryan), Matthew Grigsby, Ashley Swearingen (Brison), Brock Phillips (Jessica) and Brooke Ell (Jared); great grandchildren – Michael Doan, Madison Swearingen, Brody Bell, Bailey Bell, Devin Morlan, Brianna Grigsby, Macy Brown, Neil Brown, Jordan Doan, Kaden Potter, Mason Phillips, Braelynn Woodruff, and Caleb Woodruff; great- great-grandchildren – Liam Spivey, Layton Doan, and Lynlee Doan; brothers – David Deakins and Robert Deakins; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be held at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Monday, June 7, 2021 from 11:30am until 1:30pm. Private services will follow at the funeral home with burial to be held at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
