Ivie Kay (Thompson) Taylor, 66, of Poland, Indiana, died on June 23, 2021 at her home.
She born October 22, 1954 to John O. Thompson and Vivian Bernice. After her mother died, a gracious aunt and uncle, Lucy and Herschel Spelbring, sat another plate at the table. The Spelbring kids got a little sister. A bond was formed and still remains.
Kay married Charles Taylor on August 7, 1971. During their marriage they lived in rural Clay County and in Colorado. She was very involved with church activities and study groups at Croy’s Creek Christian Church. Kay had a great love for sewing, crafting, and traveling – especially to the beach. The last few years, she & Charles spent time as vendors at Farmer’s Markets, craft festivals and juried shows. Kay even opened a shop with her daughter, Jamy, prior to her illness.
Her greatest accomplishment wasn’t 32 years at Indiana State University, with over 25 in the President’s Office. It wasn’t talking to celebrities while working reservations at Steamboat Springs Resort for the Chamber of Commerce. It wasn’t even starting a craft business, going to juried shows or traveling on various adventures with her “Sweet Baboo” (AKA Charles). Her great achievement was raising a family to love God and be a blessing to others. No matter what the situation is to find laughter and to share that humor with others. Our little world is greater for that and she will be greatly missed.
Proceeding Kay in Death is her mother, Bernice Vivian Thompson; father, John O. Thompson; special mother, Lucy Spelbring; special father, Herschel Spelbring; special brother, Sheldon Spelbring; and special brother-in-law, David Brown.
Surviving are her husband, Charles Taylor; son, Jason; daughter, Jamy Whitaker (Mitch); brother, Jay Thompson – Colorado; step-sisters, Ruthann Russell (Bruce) – Colorado, Margaret Bowman (Gary), Sally Nicklasch (Bernie); special sisters: Elaine Brown, Janet Zurcher (Paul), Paul Spelbring (Ann), Legatha Spelbring; 5 Grandchildren: Taylor Longest (Matthew), Devin, Ethan, Quintin and Madilynn; as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Crisis Pregnancy Center of the Wabash Valley in Ivie Kay’s name.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Center Point Methodist Church Fellowship Hall July 10th from 2-5 pm.
