Janice Lee Burk, 85, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Janice was a life-long resident of Clay County and will be missed by her family and friends. Janice was a graduate of Van Buren High School and was a drum majorette. She worked at Twiggs and the Brazil J.C. Penny’s department Store. Many will remember Janice most fondly during the time when she and her late husband, J.D. Burk, owned and operated the local skating rink, “The Roller Barn.” Janice enjoyed working in her yard, reading books and loved spending time with her family.

Janice was born on March 19, 1936 in Brazil, the daughter of Walter Turner and Leona (Hoopingarner) Turner.

Janice married John David “J.D.” Burk on January 27, 1961. They enjoyed 55 years of marriage before JD passed away on February 3, 2016. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Leona Turner; a brother, Kenneth Turner; a grandson, Jacob Hoke and a son-in-law, Dennis Schuler.

Survivors include her children, two daughters, Shannon Schuler of Terre Haute, Sheila Clark and husband, Kip, of Center Point and son, John David Burk II and girl friend, Lisa Kruse of Brazil; grandchildren, Kyler (Clark) Benbow and husband Chance and Kaylee (Clark) Kohler and husband Alex and Justin Shuler and wife Lisa; and great-grandchildren, Decker Benbow, AJ Baker and Tucker Benbow due to arrive August 15, 2021.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 25, 2021 in Lawson-Miller Chapel and Crematory, 1702 E. National Ave., Brazil. Burial will be in Summit Lawn Cemetery.
