Elsie Robertine Hoffman, 98, passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2021. She was born October 22, 1922 in Hymera Indiana, to Willard and Armina Marie (Lueckel) Reynolds.
From the time she was a young girl she knew she would marry Nick Hoffman, the handsome boy who lived down the road from her grandparents in Burnett. On June 1, 1944, she did just that. They were married in Corona, California, following his release from the Naval hospital after overseas duty. They lived for a time in Hobbs, New Mexico, and El Paso, Texas, but spent most of their married life in Terre Haute. They were members of Sacred Heart Catholic church, until moving to Seelyville, when they joined Holy Rosary.
Robertine worked as a court reporter for Judge Joe Anderson, and legal secretary for Frank Crawford and Hansford Mann. She was known for her stylish wardrobe and endless pairs of high heels.
While we mourn the loss of such a wonderful woman, we are comforted by the knowledge that she had an amazing life. She and Nick loved to entertain family and friends, with great food, much laughter, and always a card game. There was always room for one more at her table. They loved traveling, going to Germany, camping trips to Canada, yearly trips to Florida, and every Navy ship reunion they attended.
After Nicks passing in 1996, Robertine didn’t slow down. She enjoyed traveling with her family, making trips to Vermont, Colorado, and Florida. She was a voracious reader, and crocheted baby blankets for every birth she knew of. Daily phone calls, shopping, and lunches out with her best friend Jeanne Tovey were a highlight. She loved sitting with the ladies on the food committee at the monthly Wabash Valley Genealogy Society meetings. She never met a stranger, and she loved her family fiercely.
Robertine has joined her parents; a younger brother, JW Reynolds; her beloved grandparents, Elsie and Willis Stowe; her son-in-laws, Nick Ivey and Gerry Patrick; and her one and only Nick in heaven.
She leaves behind her daughters Anna Ivey and Milli Hoffman-Patrick; grandchildren, Kim (Dave) Myers, Jim Gilbert, Cassandra Schnarr, Tracy (Kurt) Brinegar, Michael (Becky) Patrick and Angie (Dan) Clark; great-grandchildren, Nick Galloway, Jennifer (Andrew) Kawlewski, Kalina Gilbert, Annika Gilbert, Henry Schnarr, Fey Schnarr, Kelsey Patrick, Kourtney Patrick, Mikey Patrick, Kaylee Clark, Taylor Clark and Bryson Brinegar; many great-great grandchilden, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 5, 2021 from 12 to 2p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home with the funeral service at 2;00. A private burial will be Tuesday at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Terre Haute Humane Society.
The family would like to thank the VNA and Hospice of the Wabash Valley and her wonderful caregivers, Teresa Tovey, Agnes Webster, Heather Lynch and Renee Highsmith.
