Grace A Sanders

grace-a-sanders

Grace Sanders, age 92, passed away suddenly and peacefully on December 22, 2021, with family by her side.  She was born on May 5, 1929 in Bishop, Virginia to Harrison and Julie Altizer who both preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Lester Sanders; as well as her four brothers:  James Altizer, J.C. Altizer, Bailey Altizer and Olan Altizer; and 2 sisters:  Nan Ryder and Theda Asbury. She is survived by two of her sisters-in-law as well as numerous nieces and nephews (including great; great-great; and great-great-great!).

“Gracie” (as she was referred to by her family) moved with her sister and family from Bishop, Virginia to Terre Haute, Indiana in 1960 and began working in the dietary department at Union Hospital and then later worked for Packard Shirts.  She was a member of First Baptist North where she loved attending church and her Sunday School class.  Gracie was a huge Indianapolis Colts fan and loved talking specifics about the games and players.  She also enjoyed Hallmark movies, Family Feud and her “soaps”!

In her younger days, Gracie was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling.  She loved children and volunteered her time in the nursery and at daycares where she was considered a Grandma to many little ones.

Being part of a very large extended family, Gracie looked forward to the joking and laughter that always ensued during the many holiday and birthday gatherings.
She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young lady, and displayed her faith in words and actions.  While her passing will leave a large void in our hearts, her four generations of extended family stand together in rejoicing in the hope and the promises that we have in Christ and the fact that she is with Jesus and we will one day see her again.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday December 29, 2021 at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street in Terre Haute, from 11:00-1:00 with the celebration of life service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Brett Parks from First Baptist North will be officiating the service. Burial service will immediately follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
