Muriel Lucille Redin Glidden, 96, who resided in Brazil, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2022, two days before her 97th birthday, in the comfort of her family.

She was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, the daughter of Clifton Willard Redin and Marie Cecelia O’Conner Redin. She married Dr. Hal Winston Glidden, a native of Brazil, on February 5, 1945. They enjoyed a sixty-year honeymoon. Their deep, abiding love and amazing marriage was respected and admired by many.

Muriel attended Oshkosh State Teacher’s College. She fondly remembered there were 400 Air Corp. Cadets stationed at the College. She and Cadet Hal Glidden walked past each other on campus. It was love at first sight. She was a war bride and lived near Hal’s stationed airfields in Pecos, Texas; Lincoln, Nebraska; and at Scott Air Field, near Belleville, Illinois. After Hal’s discharge from the service following WWII, she worked as a Secretary for I.B.M in Rockford, Illinois and Borg Warner in Chicago while Hal pursued a career in optometry.

Most of all, Muriel was a devoted and loving wife and mother, an adoring grandmother, as well as a dear friend who will be remembered for her annual Christmas parties and her philanthropy. She served as President of Tri Kappa, was a member of the Women’s Department Club of Terre Haute, an honorary member of the Brazil Women’s Reading Club, and for many, many years, she made the bread for communion services at the First Presbyterian Church, Brazil.

She was an expert seamstress. She made her two-piece blue suit and matching coat worn on her wedding day from a picture in a Bazaar Magazine. She enjoyed a life- long love affair with the color, aqua, and loved decorating her home in different shades of aqua. One of her favorite quotes is attributed to Reverend Gary Scroggins, “True faith is what you do when no one is watching.” She lived life with a twinkle in her eyes and a smile in her heart when family and friends gathered.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Diane Glidden Krull, Noblesville, Indiana and Bruce Glidden (Vickie), Rockford, Illinois and by her grandchildren, Kristine Krull Smith (Ryan), Kevin Krull and Chase Glidden. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband and by her sister, Camilla Redin Albertz.

A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 210 N. Walnut St., Brazil, IN 47834, at a future date. Memorial gifts may be made to the Church.
