David Lee Greggs

David Lee Greggs, 83 of Terre Haute, passed away January 14, 2022, at 10:30pm at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care.

He was born December 20, 1938, in Terre Haute, the son of Joseph “Wayne” Greggs and Mildred Hanna Greggs. Dave graduated from Garfield High School, and he remained close to a group of his school friends with breakfast gatherings once a week.

Dave started working at Union Hospital as a young man. There was a need for additional training in respiratory therapy and Dave was sent to The Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University and the North Carolina Baptist Hospital. He came back to Union and for many years, he was the Director of Respiratory Therapy at Union, retiring after 38 years in 1997.

Following retirement, he began working for Terre Haute First Financial as the caretaker for the First Financial Forest Park in Terre Haute. He truly enjoyed this time of being out of doors, caring for the property and being a part of this endeavor.

Dave was united in marriage to Sue Johnston Greggs on August 20, 1997. They have attended the First Baptist Church of North Terre Haute for several years.

In the past, Dave enjoyed playing tennis, golf, baseball and was a part of the Terre Haute Elks. He played cards with a group of friends and later he enjoyed watching sports on television.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack Greggs, Richard Greggs, Loren “Larry” Greggs, one sister Barbara Dickinson; two great-grandchildren, Silas, and Scarlett.
Survivors include his wife Sue of Terre Haute; daughter, Christy Pickens and husband Kayle of Corey; other children, Jerry Scott Greggs of Texas, daughter Doris White of Bloomington; step-children, Derek Bryan and wife Dana and Michelle Pickett and husband Darrell; grandchildren, Samuel Pickens, Seth Pickens, Dylan White, Katie Greggs, Joshua Bryan, Lauren Bryan, Samantha Bryan, Tailor Carey, Rachel Willian, and Nicole Pickett; great-grandchildren, Kenny Lee White and Ruby Willian; sister Anna Rae Jent of Fairview Park, OH; many nieces and nephews.
