Dorothy Farmer

At age 101, Dorothy Farmer peacefully passed away at home on Jan 25, 2022.

Dorothy was best known for her uplifting smile, her kind generous nature, and cheerful work ethic. She always believed a smile was free and could make everyone’s day better! And she always strove to be an honorable Christian in all walks of life.

She truly wanted to personally thank everyone who helped celebrate her 100th birthday in 2020 during the midst of the pandemic. The delightful car parade and hundreds of cards made for some lasting, treasured memories.

She was raised in Terre Haute by her wonderful parents Samuel and Ora Swift. As a young girl she helped out in her father’s corner grocery store making deliveries, then worked at a soda fountain. After graduating from Wiley High in 1938 she attended and graduated from Business College. She became a bookkeeper for Commercial Solvents and Merchants Freight, and later a payroll clerk at DePauw University in Greencastle. One of her favorite comments about her life in the 40’s was “I would rather dance than eat when I was hungry” at Starks Barn or the Trianon Ball Room.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul Farmer, their son Bruce, and great-grandson Jacob.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy Humphries, her son John Farmer (Kay), grandchildren Margo, Jamie, Joshua (Jessica) & Sarah, and great-grandchildren Ethan, Elijah, and Joseph.
