David William Edwards, son of the late Howard Edwards and Meraleen Edwards, was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on September 26, 1955. He departed this life on February 12, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Merl Howard Edwards, in 2019, in Hayward, California. He is survived by his nephew Kirk Edwards, nieces Dana Edwards and Kali Edwards, and many cousins.

David graduated from Schulte High School in 1973, where he excelled in baseball, track and tennis. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and was later appointed to the Indiana State Police in 1978. He served as an Indiana State Trooper for 34 years in Spencer, Vanderburrg, Sullivan and Vigo Counties. Sgt David Edwards retired in 2012 after 34 years of service. David continued to serve his community as a school protection officer in Vigo County. Officer Dave enjoyed interacting with the students; he kept every drawing and handmade card.

David enjoyed traveling, especially to Germany, where he regularly indulged in a Dunkles and Schnitzel. Some of his other vacation highlights included Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the Caribbean, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and Turkey. He had many passions including woodworking, building computers, 3D printing, photography, motorcycles, firearms and ammunition, competitive shooting, reading history books and much more. A multitude of projects were always pending.

Dave will be greatly missed by his partner, Erika Cantin, and family members Zack Cantin, Korinne Cantin and especially “Mark the Shark”. Mark and his Opa shared an obsession with Star Wars. His “girls”, the three dogs, will miss him dearly.
