
Lawrence Wayne West, 91, of Brazil, Indiana, went home to be with his Lord on March 24, 2022, at 12:00 PM, surrounded by his beloved family, while staying at Cloverleaf Health Care.
Wayne was born to Virgil L. and Pearl (Bramblett) West on February 14, 1931, in Bridgeton, Indiana and lived there all his young life. He graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1949. He married his loving wife, Phyllis Jackman, on July 5, 1952, at First Baptist Church in Bridgeton. Wayne served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 – 1955. He was stationed in the Azores for 2 years and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in November of 1955.
He worked at Arketex Clay Plant for 15 years. He then went to G.M. Allison, in Indianapolis, and retired after 28 years, in 1992. He and his wife spent some time traveling and spent the month of January in Florida for several years. Wayne especially enjoyed camping and spending time with family. He was a member of Community Missionary Church and served as an elder. He also taught Sunday School Class and was an ordained Deacon for many years at First Baptist Church of Brazil. He was a devoted Christian and family man.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis, of nearly 70 years, who passed away on February 1, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Pearl West and a brother Virgil E. West.
Survivors include his two children: Alan West and wife Penny and Karen Cooper and husband Jeff; four grandchildren: Hannah Mesaeh and husband Bill, Jessie Riddell and husband George, Shane Cooper and wife Heather, Kayla Dials and husband Steve; great-grandchildren: William, Elijah, Luke, Abner, Emma, Micah, Gwyneth, Eleanor, Amelia, Maddox, Piper and Bennett; sister-in-law Bonnie West; nephews: Hank West and Keith West.
Visitation will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana on Monday, March 28, 2022, from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM. Services will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 PM with Pastor Kenny Thomas officiating with burial to follow at Clearview Cemetery.
