
Deborah “Nidiffer” Hickman, 77, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by family and loved ones while under the care of hospice on Friday, March 25th, 2022. Deborah was born May 22, 1944 in Terre Haute to Clyde and Mary Nidiffer.
Following graduation from Connorsville High School in 1962, she pursued her passion of becoming an art teacher and graduated from Indiana State University in 1966. She worked at Concannon School until 1974 then started at West Vigo Middle School teaching art until she retired in 1999.
Deborah belonged to the Wabash Valley Art Guild, Arts of Illiana, Vigo County 4-H Extension Agency, Welcome Club and Water Garden Society. She also loved being involved in the numerous activities of her daughters’ and grandchildren’s.
Deborah married her high school sweetheart, Gary Hickman on October 26, 1963 in Terre Haute.
Deborah is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and granddaughter, Jenna Ripple. She leaves behind her 3 daughters Tresa Alton (Joey), Jennifer Ripple (Kenny), and Angela Childress; her grandchildren CJ Alton (Kasey), Angela Elizabeth Alton, Victoria Childress, Kathryn Alton, Devin Childress, and Lleyton Ripple; her siblings Ron Nidiffer (Sue), Bob Nidiffer (Debe), Peggy Hill (Gary); sister-in-law Barbara Bledsoe; an international exchange daughter Manami Kojima; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Gary and Deborah will be held May 29th at the Hickman residence. Visitation will start at 1:30 pm with service at 3:00 pm.
