Rita Kay Spittler

Rita Kay Spittler of Terre Haute, born April 13, 1944, passed away on April 17, 2022. Rita graduated from Otter Creek High School in 1962.
Rita impacted the lives of many girls and young women through her work with Girl Scouts. She put on programs, led troops, and taught skills needed throughout life. She also enjoyed sharing her talents with the community through donating her time and skills. She volunteered as an advocate for CASA for several years, sewed teddy bears, blankets, and masks to donate, and supported the local humane shelter.

Rita was an avid gardener, seamstress, and sports fan. She enjoyed coaching softball alongside her husband, Frank, and supporting her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as they played and coached. She also enjoyed traveling with her family.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Spittler; parents, Ernest and Beverly Sturm; and great-grandson, Keaton Freihaut.

Rita is survived by her siblings, Michael (Jeanie) Sturm, Donald (Carla) Sturm, and Susan (Fred) McNeely; daughters, Penny (Jerry) O’Brien, Amy (Brian) Lewis, and Jennifer Crick; grandchildren, Courtney (Cory) Freihaut, Whitney (Charlie) Manwarring, Natalie Lewis, Allison (Connor) Smith, Valerie Lewis, and Nathan Crick; and great-grandchildren, Cameron Freihaut, Kerrigan Freihaut, Cohen Freihaut, Max Manwarring and Jack Manwarring; and special friends Carla Shipman and Elizabeth Harris.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, April 25 at Roselawn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 p.m., on Monday, at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Sampson officiating. Rita will be laid to rest in Roselawn Memorial Park the following day after a private family graveside service. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.roselawnfuneralhome.net
