Charles Earl “Chuck” Mitchell, 79, of Terre Haute passed away Wednesday evening, May 11, 2022 in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He retired as a bus driver with the City of Terre Haute and had previously worked as a district manager for the Terre Haute Tribune Star. Chuck was born February 1, 1943 in Bloomington, IN to Morris George Mitchell and Ruth Thelma Willard Mitchell.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Laura Fish Mitchell. They were married on June 3, 1972 in St. Patrick Catholic Church. He is also survived by two sons, Craig Mitchell (Lori) of Terre Haute and Patrick Mitchell (Rita) of Plainfield, IN; four beloved grandchildren, Evangeline, Lucas, Jack and Adeline Mitchell; his brother, Michael Mitchell (Jennette) of Bloomington, IN; sister-in-law, Jan McGavren of Omaha, NE; and nieces and nephews, Brady Mitchell, Andrew Mitchell, Sara Mitchell, Jay McGavren, Glen McGavren and John McGavren.

Chuck was a 1961 graduate of Bloomington High School and attended Indiana University where he lettered in Track and Field and was a 50 year member of the I-Men’s Association. Continuing his education, Chuck received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Indiana State University. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus St. Mother Theodore Council, Sycamore Club and Bloomington Elks. He was active in the Central Labor Council where he was honored with the 2017 Henry Ozok Retiree Award provided by the Wabash Valley Chapter of the Labor Council, and was a member of the Newspaper Guild and Transit Union. One of Chuck’s favorite hobbies was working with model trains.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, May 15th from 2:00-5:00 PM with a Rosary recited at 4:30 PM in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 16, 2022 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Fr. Ben Syberg officiating. Private burial will be at a later date.
