Bill E. Erney passed away July 18, 2022. Bill was born October 7, 1944 in DeRidder, Louisiana

to Bill Erney and Ethel Brownfield Erney. Bill is survived by his companion of 17 years and true

love Jane Curley, sister Cindy Andrews, nephew James W. Wallace, honorary daughter Sherree

Wright (Tim), honorary son Michael Stewart (Jamie), honorary grandchildren Caroline

Rohrmayer (Brandon), Haley Jaeger (Daniel), Todd Wright (Jennifer), Andy Wright (Nicole),

Shannon Wright, and Megan Wright. Bill is also survived by honorary great grandsons Hudson

and Bennett Rohrmayer and Jack Stewart Gayso, great nephews Kyler Wallace, Scott Hough,

and Matthew Hough. Bill was also blessed to have Jane’s children and grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by his mother, father, his brother and best friend Richard (Rick)

Erney, and niece Dianna Hough.

Bill attended Garfield High School where he was an athlete, graduating with eight varsity letters

in three different sports. Bill attended Indiana State University, served in the United States Army

from 1965 to 1967 as a Sergeant with the 404th Military Police Company. Upon completion of

military service, Bill bought into a business owned by his father. That business was later

incorporated as Erney Safe and Lock Co., Inc. Bill bought his fathers half of the business upon

his retirement in 1983 and though Bill retired in 2009, he retained ownership and the business

was operated by long time employee Brian Kester who sadly passed earlier this year. Bill was a

long time member of the Noon Optimist Club as well.

Bill and Jane enjoyed many winters at St. George Island where they had many friends to enjoy

warm winters. Bill will be cremated as per his request.

Memorial services are scheduled on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 5 p.m. in Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 N. 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 3 p.m. until service time at the funeral home on Monday. Any donations can be made to the Noon Optimist Club.
