Rosa Lee Stilwell, loving wife and mother of three, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the age of 93.

Rosie was born August 3, 1928 to Herman Owen Boyll and Eva Payne Boyll. She was very recently preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Richard Eugene Stilwell, the love of her life. Also preceding her are her parents, her brother William Boyll, and her sister Hyla Newlin Lowe, a brother Cecil and a sister Charlotte, who both died in infancy.

Rosie is survived by her three children, Dennis Ray Stilwell and wife Judy, who live in Springfield, Missouri; Richard Lee Stilwell and his wife Janine, who reside in St. Petersburg, Florida; and Susan Lynn Strole and husband Fred Holler, who live in Spencer, Indiana, seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Born in the small town of Pimento, Indiana, Rosie was a country girl. When she was of working age, she got a job as a key punch operator at DX Mid-Continent Oil and later Eastern Express. She met Richard while working at DX. The story goes that she wanted him to just leave her alone, but he persisted with a Valentine Card that read, “What ya bet I get you in the end?” And that he did. They married on June 11, 1950, at Oregon Baptist Church. They were faithful active members of the church for many years. They were well known for their field of irises at their home on Hwy 63, in Oak Grove Subdivision. Rosie enjoyed working in the yard and taking care of her family. She did volunteer work at nursing homes and later at Regional Hospital.

As they aged, they moved to the northwestern part of Terre Haute and started worshipping at Sugar Creek Baptist Church in West Terre Haute.

She and Richard led their family by strong example. Instilling a faithful Love for our Savior and a love for each other. After Richard passed, Rosie said that she assumed he was “Running down the streets of gold”. She is with him now, just where she wanted to be, in the presence of God, with Richard by her side. Probably hand in hand running down those streets of gold while singing Praises to God.

Funeral services will be held at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 North 3rd St., West Terre Haute, IN on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM, with Dr. Tom Savage officiating. Private burial will follow in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday from 10:30 AM – 11:00 AM in the funeral home.
