SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. — There was a stabbing in Sullivan County, and the details of the case are all too familiar to violent crime detectives.

The stabbing happened on West Graysville Street around 11 o’clock Wednesday morning. Sgt. Matt Ames with State Police says the cops arrived to the house to learn that the victim was already taken to the hospital.

The suspect, 40-year-old Dustin Wheeler, was still there.

“The individual who they thought was suspect remained inside the residence,” says Sgt. Ames, “the suspect and victim do know each other, and there was no altercation leading up to it.” That last part has puzzled detectives, so they’ll have to start collecting any information they can to find out why Wheeler apparently attacked the victim.

The victim was taken to the Sullivan County Community Hospital by a family member, and then flown by air ambulance to a hospital in Indianapolis for further treatment.

Police had to get a warrant to go inside the home and arrest Wheeler. That took a little over and an hour, and Wheeler stayed inside the home the entire time. When the cops came back, he walked outside and willingly turned himself into police custody.

He’s charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery, both felony charges.
