John Kohler, 69, passed away July 24, 2022 in Carbon, Indiana at his home surrounded by his family. John was born to the late Walter and Margaret (Vanatti) Kohler on October 2, 1952 in Brazil, Indiana.
John worked at J.I. Case in Terre Haute for 15 years. He worked at several factories in Greencastle. After working in the factories, John found his love for bartending and worked as a bartender for many years, bartending at the Eagles Lodge Aerie #274, East Side Tavern, Hunters Lounge, and lastly the Moose Lodge #780 up until he had his stroke in 2013.
John loved making holidays memorable for all of his children. He loved playing Santa Claus at various places in town. John was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and IU Basketball fan. He loved to play cards and would often host Poker night at his home. John was a family man and loved having his family out for cookouts.
John is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Shirley, Mary, Bertha Mae, Frances Kay, Eugene, and Jesse, brothers-in-law, Delbert, and Yogi, sister-in-law Lavonna, and one grandson, Tanner Standley.
John is survived by his wife of 29 years Toni Kohler, five children, Rebecca Kohler, Beth Mount-Kohler, Scott Standley (Cindy), Nikki Lalen (Stoney), Robinne Smith (Anthony), eleven grandchildren, Zackery (Alexis), Taylor, Phillip (Emily), Tyler, Mikayla (Chris), Breanna (Kyle), Bryson, Payton (Cory), Madison (Justin), Trayton, and Andraya, 17 great grandchildren, Paisley, Braxten, Laikyne, Aurora, Nikolas, Leah, Jordyn, PJ, Kyler, Kayeden, Kacen, Carson, Benjamin, Reilly, Elijah, Olivia, Xayvion, one brother-in-law, Richard, as well as several very close nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Calcutta Cemetery with a cookout at John and Toni’s home following the service.
