Barbara Brown

Barbara L. Brown, 83 of rural Parke County, died unexpectedly July 28, 2022, at 11:15 at her home. She was born January 20, 1939, in Sullivan County, the daughter of Carl Phegley and Vera Lucille Cox Phegley.
Barbara was united in marriage at the young age of 17 to George A. Brown. They were married on November 4, 1956, in her parents’ home. They have celebrated 66 years of life together side by side.
Barb enjoyed collecting Barbie Dolls and the State Quarters among other things. She found joy in flowers and crocheting. She was a homemaker and a former Avon Lady. She and George worked on genealogy together and honestly, any other project, as a team.
Barbara and George have been attending the Carbon Community Church. She has been a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and “extra” mother to many.
Survivors include husband George Brown; daughters, Pam Brown of Clinton, and Patty Cannoy (Jess) of Kansas, IL; sisters, Rachelle Phegley, Sheila Phegley (Roger), and Chris Reid all of the Carbon area; brothers, Carl Phegley (Phyllis) of Terre Haute, and Keith Phegley (Cathy Larimore) of Clay County; sisters in Law, Anna Phegley and Vonna Phegley; a close family cousin, Martha Fischer; many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lucille Phegley; sisters and brothers in law, Violet Anderson (Kenneth), Hester Raab (Wayne), and Bertha Batchelor (Reynolds); brothers, Edward Phegley and Samuel Phegley.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 11:00am at French Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Run Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 and again Wednesday one hour prior to services.
