Mary Catherine Schalburg

gerald-kirkham-2

Mary Catherine Schalburg passed away after a long battle with cancer. She was a strong fighter in terms of surviving so many things over the course of the last several years. Despite the odds, she never gave up through treatments, surgeries, hospital visits and stays, but on Friday, October 14, 2022, Mary decided it was time for her own peace.
Born in Chicago, IL, she was predeceased by her Mother Margaret McQueary, Father William McQueary, and be- loved husband and the love of her life James Frederick Schalburg who she married in 1988 after being high school sweethearts many years before.
Survived by her daughters Denise Lucarelli (Chris) of Sterling Heights, MI and Tricia Leminger (Chris Lynch) of Avon, IN, one grandson Michael Lucarelli of Sterling Heights, MI, brother William McQueary (Marsha) of Terre Haute, brother-in-law Jerry Schalburg (Pat) of Terre Haute, and brother-in-law Michael Schalburg (Pam) of West Terre Haute; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary was a graduate of Wiley High School and a member of St. Margaret Mary’s Church. In her early career, she worked for eye specialist Dr. Noel McBride. Later in her career, she worked at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
She was very active in her Widow Ladies Group, her church and other community activities. While living at Westminster Village this past year, she met many new friends and loved to play bingo, eat meals together, watch movies, attend church services with her new friends, in addition to seeing all of her other long-standing friends.
Mary never met a stranger. She was full of heart, laughter, talk, and love. She loved her family and her friends. She loved to go on bike rides or drives with her friends to “yard sales” as she called them. Through all of her struggles with cancer over the last several years she always found the time to find the thoughtful “treasures” for those that she loved and cared for. The little things meant the most to Mary. Giving her yard sale “treasures” to those that took care of her and meant the most to her as family and friends made her happiest. She would always find the way to your heart even if it was her yard sale finds, a pan of brownies to put a smile on faces, attending Widow Ladies Group events, or helping at the annual church yard sale event. The little things are what she always said mattered.
Services will be conducted at St. Margaret Mary’s Church on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at 12 pm.
