William “Bill” Joseph Kassis, 86, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away, November 5, 2022, in Union Hospital, with his loving family by his side. He was born December 21, 1935, to Joseph and Louise (Tanoos) Kassis. Bill retired from the Vigo County School Corporation in 1993. He was a Latin and English Teacher at Woodrow Wilson Middle School and Chauncey Rose Middle School. He was a lifelong member of St. George Orthodox Church. Bill was an avid sports fan, the St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana State University Basketball being 2 of his favorite teams. Bill not only enjoyed watching the basketball games at ISU, but was one of the beloved bartenders in the Sycamore Varsity Club because of his affiliation with Saratoga Traveling Bar Service. Bill was his grandchildren’s biggest fan! He was often seen at their sporting events cheering them on. He never met a stranger, and was known to always have a smile on his face. You could often find Bill on the weekends at the Saratoga Restaurant. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents. Bill is survived by the love of his life of 58 years Saundra (Malooley) Kassis; 3 children: Kimberly Sue Curley (Tim), Alan Joseph Kassis (Julie), and William “Billy” Christopher Kassis; grandchildren:Brandon Paul Curley (Maddie Stuck), Lauren Nicole Curley, Robert “Zach” Zachrey Watkins, and Abraham Joseph Kassis; brothers and sisters-in-law: Char and Joe Wade and Cathy and George Azar, and his beloved Aunt Betty Tanoos Azar – who was more like a sister than an aunt, and many adoring nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Joe and Linda Tanoos, Rosemary Tanoos Kassis, Judy Joseph Hanna, Jack Joseph, Michael Grohosky, Steve Grohosky, John Grohosky, Ray and Renee Azar, Rasheeda Azar, Cristine Azar Thomas. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, from 4PM – 8PM at St George Orthodox Church in Terre Haute, with Trisagion Services at 7:30 P.M. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, November 9 at 11:00 A.M., with a Visitation scheduled an hour prior to the service, at the Church. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Dustin Green, Nick Moore, Brandon Curley, Abraham Kassis, Zach Watkins and Justin Wade. The family would like to extend a special thank you Dr. Thomas Schmitz, Dr. Camillo Mendoza, Dr. Elias Dalloul, and Dr. Suresh Kunapareddy, as well as Kim Welker of the VNA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. George Orthodox Church. The family has entrusted Greiner Funeral Home with care and arrangements.
