
Martha Day Bowsher Hafner, 100, of Terre Haute died Tuesday afternoon, November 8, 2022. She was a homemaker. Martha was born January 19, 1922 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Byron DeWitt Day and Edith Powell Day.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James Allen Bowsher and Carol Lucchese of San Francisco, CA; two granddaughters, Willa Day Overland (Brandon Overland) and Elana Nichole Bowsher; three great-grandchildren, Truly Anne Overland, Stella Day Overland and Castor John Overland; and two nieces, Leslie Hanson of High Ridge, MO and Ann Braham of Live Oak, FL. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her two husbands, Wayne Russell Bowsher, died February 2, 1975, and James Lewis Hafner, died March 23, 1997; a son, John William Bowsher; and her brother, Robert Allen Day.
Martha was a graduate of Wiley High School and received a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana State Teachers College and Master’s degree from Indiana State University. She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Tri Kappa Associate Chapter, League of Terre Haute, and a life member of the Swope Art Museum.
Memorial Services for Martha are pending. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
