James Otto Shepard Jr., 74, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away December 28, 2022. He was born November 22,
1948, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to James Otto Shepard Sr. and Cynthia Norton Shepard-Perry.
James is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 37 years, Kathy Shepard, father James O. Shepard Sr.
and daughter Celeste Shepard. He is survived by his children Jennifer Shull, Bryan Shepard, Scott Shepard, and
Shannon Holt; granddaughters Kathryn Holt and CaSandra Shepard; grandsons Joshua Shepard, Jonathan Weakly
and Montae Shepard; and siblings Donna Shepard Ross, Milo Shepard and Mark Shepard Perry.
James worked hard every day of his life and gave completely of himself to the tasks he engaged in – especially when
it came to fulfilling his role as “Poppy.” He built the home he lived in with his wife and family. He also enjoyed
traveling. His favorite place to visit was Cancun, Mexico where he and his children made many special memories.
He was also well known for hosting some of the best family gatherings. He enjoyed spending his free time with
friends and family. He served in the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corp. James was an active
member at Sacred Heart Church of God. He served on the board at Stewart Lawn Cemetery and he was a member
of CERT, the Community Emergency Response Team. He received an award from Wabash Valley Genealogy
Society for his extensive research into the Lost Creek Settlement. He was a dedicated and loving husband, father,
grandfather and friend.
We love you more than words could describe and you will be greatly missed. You are joined with your father, wife,
daughter and our Lord Jesus Christ. May they take care of you until we meet again.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Church of God, on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 11:00am. Visitation will
be at the church on Friday, from 10:00am. until 11:00am. Burial will follow at Stewart Lawn Cemetery.
