Horace Hayden Hayward, 98, of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away January 3, 2023. He was born March 17, 1924, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama to Charles Scott Hayward and Bessie Mae (Young) Hayward. Horace was born on St. Patrick’s Day in 1924. He gained the name Pat from this. Pat served his country during World War II in the Army Signal Corps. He graduated from Garfield High school, and after the war earned a Bachelor Degree from Indiana State University. He retired from Public Service of Indiana as a Supervisor after 35 years of employment. He then went on to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity for 20 years in Lafayette, IN. Pat leaves behind his wife of 76 years, Ruth Nelle(Carnes) Hayward; their 6 daughters Mary Bess Hayward, Dorothy Savage, Margaret “Peggy” Kelm, Patricia Kleptz, Charlette Bell, and Ruth A. Wade; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. Graveside services will be on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 3:00p.m. in Highland Lawn Cemetery. The family has entrusted Greiner Funeral Home with the care and arrangements.
