Lyla Jill Nussel, 79, passed away January 15, 2023 surrounded by her family. Lyla was born to the late Lyle and Lloy (Reynolds) Gilliatt in Brazil on March 3, 1943.

Lyla graduated from Staunton High School. After graduation, Lyla married her high school sweetheart, Richard Nussel on June 23, 1962. She worked for many years as a realtor in Brazil, ultimately retiring from Emmert Realty. Lyla was a member of the Staunton United Methodist Church, where she often volunteered in the food pantry. Lyla was a very loving, wife, mother, and grandmother.

Lyla was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Zo June Gilliatt.

Lyla is survived by her husband, Richard Nussel, two daughters, Sharri Schamihorn (Kerry), Amy Winn (Cody), grandchildren, Jacob (Madison), Heather, Tessa, Olivia, Zeb, Lyle and Teddi, great grandchildren, Jillian, Lyla, Shiloh, Greyson, and Richard Jacob. Lyla is also survived by her four-legged best friends, Charlie and Tommy.

All services will be private.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
