
Mary Lou Liechty, 93, of Clay City, Indiana passed away on February 5, 2023 while at Union Hospital.
Mary was born on July 3, 1929, in Jasonville, Indiana the daughter of Earl and Elsie Hubbell. She graduated from Midland High School with the class of 1947. Mary married Donn Liechty on March 12, 1948. He preceded her in death following more than 70 years of marriage. Mary worked as a librarian and the “detention lady” at Clay City High School for several years. She also owned and operated Liechty’s Greenhouse, in Clay City for many years.
Mary was a member of the Red Hat Society. She and Donn enjoyed many years of Wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona at the Lost Dutchman. She also enjoyed working on crafts and flower gardening.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Elsie Hubbell, her husband Donn Liechty, two sons: Douglas Mark Liechty and Dennis Liechty; as well as her siblings: Bob Hubbell, Jim Hubbell, Ray, and Roy.
Mary is survived by her two daughters-in-law Sally Liechty and Roberta Liechty; grandchildren: Stephanie Liechty, Sabrina (Matt) Persinger, Derek (Shelby) Liechty, Donnovan Liechty, Christopher (Debie) Liechty, and Marc (Ashley) Liechty; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Joe (Suzanne) Liechty and a sister-in-law Hope (Art) Schlegel as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, 301 East Eighth St. Clay City, Indiana 47841, on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Services will follow at the funeral home, on Thursday, at 1:00 PM with burial to be held at Maple Grove Cemetery.
