BRAZIL-The City of Brazil hopes that a $20,000 planning grant will bring them one step closer to building a community center on the site of the old zoo at Craig Park.

Planning Director Janet McClellan told our station’s audience about plans to build a community center on our Focus on the Community radio program earlier this year. Focus on the Community airs Saturday and Sunday mornings on each of the six DLC Media radio stations in the Wabash Valley.

The planning grant will come from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA).

In other business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety on Wednesday:

  • Property owned by the city and adjacent to First Baptist Church and just west of the church will be leased to the church. First Baptist leadership has approached Mayor Brian Wyndham. No money will change hands but the church will be responsible for maintaining the land. It is believed the property will be used for recreational purposes. Due to the likelihood of flooding, only certain kinds of structures can be built on that property.
  • King Lawn Care was granted a two-year contract to mow the Wastewater properties owned by the city at $1,500 per mow due to the large area involved.
  • There are 18 real estate properties in the City of Brazil that will be offered during the next Clay County Commissioners Tax Sale. Janet McClellan received permission to b id on those properties on behalf of the City.

The next meeting of the Brazil Board of Public Works and Safety will be at 10 a.m., March 22nd, in City Hall.
