Herbert (Herb) Wilson Jones Jr., son of Herbert Wilson Jones Sr. and Iris Chlorene Dill, was born on September 4, 1945 in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, died on February 20, 2023 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital, Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, at age 77.
Herb married Patricia (Patt) Jean Boyd, daughter of Donald Paul Boyd and Faye Collene Howard, on March 9, 1968 in Chesterfield, St Louis County, Missouri. Herb and Patt had three children: Herbert Wilson Jones III., Richard Joseph Jones, and Kimberly Trisha Jones
Herb was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers, Iris Lorene Martin (Robert), Mary Helen Pearman (Charles), Joseph Robert Leo Jones (Julia) and David Leroy Jones (Jane).
Herb is survived by his wife Patt, 3 children, Herbert Wilson Jones, Richard Joseph Jones and Kimberly Trisha Jones-Ross (Rob), Sister in-law Julia, Sister in-law Jane, 10 grandchildren, Caroline Olivia Jones-Petrik (Ethan), Courtney Elizabeth Jones, Victoria Patricia Faye Jones (Aziz Hyde), Shyann Marie Ault-Jones (GeordanyBarzaga), Jacquelynn Kian Paulin (Skyler Vogleman), Austin Roy Paulin, Niccolas Aaron Wilcox, Nathaniel Adrian Wilcox, Julliette Collene Jones and Jakson Edgar Wilson Ross. 8 great grandchildren, Paizleigh Amelia Jones-Kindberg, Presleigh Patricia Faye Hyde, Isaiah Mason Hyde, Daniel Michael Barzaga, Eli’ana Mariann Barzaga, Jeffrey Eugene Vogleman, Brenden Thomas Vogleman and Krystalynn Alexandria Paulin and a 9th on the way. He also has many Nieces and Nephews.
Herb is a 1964 Wiley High School graduate. He earned an Associate Degree from Vincennes University and a Bachelor Degree from Indiana State University.
Herb is a United States Air Force veteran and served over seas in Vietnam. He became an Indiana State Police Officer in 1970 with his first duty assignment out of the Jasper Post district #34, Terre Haute District #32 and retiring out of the PIO-REG IV Head Quarters as a Sergeant in 2004 with 34 years of service.
Herb was very involved through the years in the community and was a member of many organizations. Indiana State Police Alliance, Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Zorah Shrine, Eastern Star, Pachyderm Club of Vigo County, Republican Party, March of Dimes, Chances for Youth, Terre Haute Bowling Association, 700 Club and spent many years as a Little League and Babe Ruth baseball coach and loved to play golf.
The family will be having a Celebration of Life for Herb on Sunday, March 26 from 1pm-5pm at the VFW post 972, 1111 Veteran Square, Terre Haute, IN 47807. The VFW post is located 2 blocks north of Wabash Avenue on North 12th Street. Herb loved to eat homemade Strawberry Shortcake. The family invites all the family and friends of Herb to join them for a bowl of Strawberry Shortcake in honor and remembrance of Herb at his Celebration of Life.
