Melvin Ray Lawson, age 89, of Terre Haute, Indiana passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023. Melvin was born in Riley, IN on December 11, 1933 to Ward Lawson and Nellie Fisher Lawson.

Ray was a graduate of Gerstmeyer High School, and Terre Haute Business College.

He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War as a Radio Man.

Ray was a longtime employee of Terre Haute Malleable, where he was a timekeeper, and retired from the South Vermillion School System where he was a custodian.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Neal Lawson and Dale Lawson; and a daughter Crystal Sontag.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Anita; a daughter, Malinda Zurcher; two grandsons, Ash Zurcher and Michael Sontag.

Ray will be remembered for his quick mathematical computations and his memory of dates. He enjoyed bowling and fishing.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 7, 2023 at 1 PM at Roselawn Memorial Park, with Pastor Larry Branham officiating.
