Rita K. Dean, 79, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully at Gibson Hospice Center after battling many health issues over the last 20 years. She was born July 17, 1943, to Rueben and Grace Stevenson.
Rita married Richard (Dick) Dean on August 30, 1963. She spent many years employed by Columbia Records and Todd Uniform, before retiring from Data Label in 2014.
She is survived by daughter Jenny Dean Frank and grandchildren Olivia and Colin Frank. Also surviving are sisters Lorine (Joel) Oglesby, Mary Lou Hiatt, Carla Edmonson, brother Gary (Ruth) Stevenson, sisters-in-law Sandra Stevenson, Patsy Stevenson, and Judy Swinford. Rita was married to Dick for 45 years and as he was one of 14 children, she is survived by many beloved family members on his side of the family as well.
Rita is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Claudette Lohse (Bill) brothers Paul Stevenson and Thomas Stevenson, and brothers-in-law Stephen Hiatt and Darrell Edmonson.
Rita enjoyed dancing as a young girl and later she and Dick were members of Swinging Mates Square Dance Club with her sisters and their spouses (that was their story). She enjoyed playing cards, especially poker games way into the morning hours. Bingo, fishing, mushroom hunting and chicken and noodles were also among her favorites.
Through all her health struggles, she most enjoyed watching her grandkids and their activities. She loved watching Olivia cheer at basketball games and beamed with pride as she was Homecoming Queen. Rita was also one proud and excited grandma as she was able to watch Colin and the Terre Haute North Patriots basketball team in person last year after Covid and would arrive at the games two hours before Varsity tip-off to get her seat.
Visitation will be held at Greiner Funeral Home on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 10 am to 12 pm with a service following at 12 pm. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
